Social networking and web 2.0

What do the terms social networking and Web 2.0 mean to you? People wasting their time looking at Facebook? A security threat? A risk to the organisation’s reputation? Something that Redbridge Council is doing that Better connected 2008 first and then the Audit Commission applauded with its ‘ground-breaking interactive website’?

Further information

The next major project from Socitm Insight looks at the ways in which the public sector might embrace and exploit these technologies. To develop the research, we are running a one-day seminar in Coventry, where we will provide an insider’s view of what social networking and web 2.0 are about.  This will include mini-case studies and input from expert Ewan McIntosh, National Adviser: Learning and Technology Futures at Learning and Teaching Scotland, who advises on how to harness social media for public service ( see http://edu.blogs.com/ewanmcintosh/ and http://www.ltscotland.org.uk/connected/blogs/live/mcintosh.asp). Cllr. Mary Reid of RB Kingston upon Thames will provide the politician’s perspective.

Our agenda is packed with content to stimulate thinking and to help you to decide where these technologies fit in your organisation’s strategies for engaging citizens and business, promoting knowledge sharing, and reshaping it for the information age.
