18 December 2006: Socitm Council member Glyn Evans wins Public Sector Power 100 Award


Glyn Evans, a National Council member of Socitm and chair of its Information Age Government Group (SIAG) has won the Public Sector Power 100 Award for IT. He received his award at a ceremony in London on 20 November. 

Glyn’s ‘day job’ is Assistant to the Chief Executive on  transformation with Birmingham City Council, in which role he is primarily  responsible for driving forward a programme of radical change within the  Council.  This is his second post with BCC having been appointed director of Business Solutions & IT in November 2003.

The Public Sector Power 100 Awards are new initiative, set up by media and business consultants Carter Anderson to identify and applaud high-achieving public servants.  The Awards are sponsored by Barclays Bank, Atos Origin, Iron Mountain and PKF.

Awards winners are chosen from thousands of nominations received from people working in the public sector, backed up by independent research and verification.  Other winners on November 20 were: 

  • Finance Award - Trevor Woolley, member, Defence Management Board
  • Local Government Award - Sir David Trippier, chairman of Cambridgeshire Horizons
  • Central Government Award - Archie Robertson, chief executive of the Highways Agency
  • Uniformed Services Award - Sir Ken Knight is London’s Fire Commissioner
  • Education Award - Chris Edwards, chief executive, Education Leeds
  • HR Award - Angela O'Conner, human resources director, Crown Prosecution Service
  • Healthcare Award - Barry Cockcroft, chief dental officer at the Department of Health
