Website Assessment Service

Better connected 2007

This service is available from publication of the Better connected report in early March, up till the start of the next major annual review in November. The service helps local authority users  understand how their website is perfoming against criteria followed in the latest Better connected report.

In this personalised service, websites are assessed individually, using all the techniques and expertise developed over a decade of Better connected surveys and against the detailed criteria of the latest survey. A range of optional additional assessments from specialists allows the service to be further customised to cover readability, usability and accessibility.

The result is highly-focused and constructive advice to help with transformation of online information and services.

The service comprises a standard assessment (cost range £1750 - £2750) plus any combination of three additional options:

  • Technical accessibility review (with RNIB): £750
  • Usability and accessibility review (with Usability Exchange): £1750
  • Readability review (with The Writer): £1500

In addition, we can customise this service:

  • by broadening scope of assessment (eg investigating specific issues that you have defined)
  • by making an on-site presentation or just facilitating a workshop.

Please note that this service is not available between November and March as the team is fully occupied in Better connected work over that period.

Standard assessment - how  it works

Two Better connected reviewers assess your website independently and report their findings separately. In this way you will see how two of our expert reviewers view your site and learn from what they agree on and what they might just see differently.

From their reports we produce a detailed 30-page report following the surveys used in the Better connected report. The answers to the questions by the two reviewers are shown side by side, unedited, so that web developers can see how similar, or different, the replies are. Both
reviewers also give their top five recommendations for improving the site
